Case Study:

Sculpture Party (Edinburgh College of Art).

Intro.

The Sculpture Party is held annually at Edinburgh College of Art in December.

The Sculpture Court at the Edinburgh College of Art is a unique cultural space, so it’s only right that its curators and decorators – the ECA Sculpture Department – get to convert it into a dance floor once a year. It is ostensibly an end-of-term party and the students use the profits raised by the event for their sculpture projects in the next term.

What we did.

We are now in our second year of providing sound, DJ equipment, lighting and staging for this event. In the main sculpture hall we construct a lite-deck stage and place a stack on either side of the staging, we then use our lighting to uplight the already grand pillars, sculptures and alcoves in the main hall. In the second room we provided two smaller stacks, lighting and DJ equipment plus a mixing desk, backline and band engineer for the bands which play at the start of the night.

Results.

This event is one of our favourite on the calendar and we love working with the team at ECA, the main sculpture hall is so grand that it is joyous experience to place our system and lights in the hall and use the massive sculptures as a back drop. This event is always a sell out and we received lots of compliments from the organisers on the sound, lighting and the overall manner that our team carried out the set-up this year.
